The South Downs and Surrey Hills
Summary: guiding, private bunkhouse, breakfasts, BBQ - £285 for 3 days
On WildBike's 'Toughness out of Ten' rating, it's a 5
This is a new one for WildBike in 2018. Our usual habitat is higher and cooler climes than the leafy South-East, but why not? So the elevation is modest, but the greensand lumps of the Surrey Hills and the chalky ridge of the South Downs boast a network of beautiful rollercoaster singletrack through ancient forests and open hillside.
We'll be ticking off two great rides at each end of the Surrey Hills, including the classic well-known trails around Peaslake (you know, BKB, summer lightning, yoghurt pots and the like), as well as the lesser rolled trails over on Leith Hill and beyond. And we'll be shuttling you the short trip across the Sussex Weald to the South Downs for a beautiful old-school xc kinda ride using part of the South Downs Way as well as climbs up the Iron Age Hill Forts of Chanctonbury and Cissbury Rings, all the time with big views across the chalky downland to the sea. Loverly!
Your South Downs and Surrey Hills Accommodation
Cute as mustard, or something cuter and not so mustardy - that's what our gorgeous bunkhouse is! Nestled in a bucolic setting on the slopes of Leith Hill, it has comfy seating and an open fire, 3 separate bunk rooms, plenty of hot showers and picnic tables and a barbecue in the tranquil garden. There are plenty of great pubs nearby and Leith Hill Tower is a quick pedal up the hill to stretch your legs and take in the view before breakfast, if that's your bag! The bonus is that for 2 of our rides we will be able to pedal straight from the door. Perfect!

Is it for me?
We've given this trip our most modest 'Toughness' rating of 5 out of 10. If you are graduating from Swinley forest and into the wilds, for example, or if this might be your first foray onto proper singletrack, or if you just want a bit more chill in your long weekend of pedalling, then this is the one for you! Surfaces are firm sandy trails on the Surrey Hills with a few rooty sections, and slightly rougher pebbly chalk and flint on the South Downs. We will be doing no more than 35k per day with up and down of about 600m, so you'll know you've been properly out there, but you should have something in reserve for work on Monday morning!
Arrival evening of Thursday 5th April 2018 with riding Friday to Sunday.
For reference and as a guide, our bunkhouse is just south of the M25 near Dorking, approximately 2 hours from Bristol and Birmingham.
For riders wishing to travel by train, we can run a free pick up and drop of service from Dorking station. Just let us know in advance.
After booking, your joining details will be sent to you 6 weeks before your holiday begins.
